Description

When the first edition of License to Climb was published in 1995, the response from climbers and the specialist press was overwhelming. Undogmatic and imaginative, it deals with all the criteria that play a role in improving your own performance on the rock. The completely revised and expanded "License to Climb" was published in 2010.

The 256 pages, many of which are in color, focus on climbing technique in particular. The techniques are analyzed in concrete situations and not "re-enacted" on an artificial wall. The illustrious circle of "role models" includes some of the excellent climbers of our time and ranges from the seventeen-year-old prodigy Adam Ondra to Jule Wurm, Johanna Ernst, Angela Eiter, Chris Sharma, Dave Graham, Fred Nicole, Klem Loskot, Marietta Uhden, Yuji Hirayama and many others. The entire spectrum of climbing activities is on display. Whether bouldering, deep water soloing, sport or adventure climbing and big walls, License to Climb covers everything and provides countless tips for improvement.

With regard to the new training methods, the extent to which the respective principles and exercises are useful for climbing is illustrated. The emphasis on individual differences is made from the previous editions: three prototypical characters are used to describe how individual deficits also require special solutions. In addition to physical factors, the book also describes in detail mental problems that slow down the path to the top. The whole thing is not highly theoretical, but rather clear and easy to read. The new edition contains numerous graphics, photos and movement sequences that give the explanations a vivid form. As the book does not contain any information on belaying techniques, it is not suitable as the sole textbook for beginners. However, if you want to improve as effectively as possible, you can't get past License to Climb.

Udo Neumann | Udini Verlag | Edition 2010 | 256 pages
