<p>Ammersee, Starnberger See, Fünfseenland - what people associate with these terms could hardly be more contradictory: Domicile of the rich and beautiful, "Munich's paddling pool", but also a place of culture and history. And they are all right in some way: the beautiful Rose Island near Feldafing (whose prehistoric pile dwellings are a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Buchheim Museum of the Imagination near Bernried, the Sissi Castle in Possenhofen, etc. offer plenty of activities for those hungry for education. Cyclists can let off steam on countless kilometers of signposted cycle paths, refresh themselves on the way in one of the countless ponds and lakes or head for one of the many beer gardens, the most famous of which, Andechs Monastery (the "Holy Mountain of Bavaria"), adorns the cover of the map. If you don't want to cycle that far from Munich, you can make do with a trip to the large forests around Munich. What else does the area have to offer?
