Description

Tuscany, with around 3.5 million inhabitants, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. And rightly so, as its almost 23,000 square kilometers are home to true gems. Whether it's art, culture, nature or cuisine. Many of the most famous artists from the past had their cradle in Tuscany, furthermore names such as Michelangelo, Dante or Leonardo da Vinci. Tuscany accompanies us right into our homes. Be it pasta, olive oil, ham or Chianti Classico.

Picturesque stretches of coastline with beautiful sandy beaches, rolling hills with cypress trees and medieval towns of art and culture - Tuscany has something for everyone. This region of diversity is waiting to be discovered, and one way is by bike.

Trail quality and traffic

Unfortunately, cycle paths in Tuscany are few and far between. Only along the coast, along the Arno and the Maestro della Chiana canal and in some towns are there cycle paths. In most cases, however, you will have to make do with the mostly quiet country roads. Most of these are excellent to ride on, and the surface rarely has any major defects. Increased traffic is mainly found in the cities.

As Tuscany has a very hilly and mountainous landscape, there is hardly a route that does not involve several meters of elevation gain. Another reason for the challenging routes is that most of the towns are built on hills or ridges. This means, of course, that the last few kilometers in particular involve some strenuous hairpin bends. However, the magnificent views always make up for the exertions.

Esterbauer Verlag | 5th edition 2015 | 200 pages | scale 1:70,000, GPS tracks, city maps, list of overnight stays, elevation profile | weatherproof & tearproof | spiral binding
